Gucinari is known for its funky mens shoe design. In this case, we have managed to take an oxford, considered formal by most, combine it with broguing and create a really cool shoe. For men who love fashion and style, this one is for you. There is full brogue detail in that there is the classic wing tip with zigzag serration to the edges. The wing tip is considered more casual than a cap toe. There is a pattern to the toe which can be described as ‘beak’ as it has an angle to it. Along the vamp, side and heel there is punch out detail. These ornamental details had very practical beginnings as they were included in shoes to allow the workers on Scotland and Irelands wet marshland to drain water from their footwear! In fact, the oxford part of this shoe came from students at the eponymous university wearing Oxonions in the 1800s. Although then the point was more comfort, now this style of shoe is considered a formal one.
However there is not much prescription these days, as these shoes can come in various shades and textures as witnessed here with a mock croc leather panel. Even though there is a funky style, there is a sophisticated edge to this dark grey oxford two tone brogue too and it would look good worn with jeans as well as with a suit. Two tone shoes are usually more obvious in that they are black and white or tan and beige but we think the subtlety of the dark grey and black works really well against the complexity of the style. We have other combinations in this particular style and all share this funky mixed with formality so check them out.
May we suggest the care of these shoes? Try getting unfinished ceder shoe trees which mop up odours and keep the shape of the shoe in tact. Even if you only have them in for an hour after wear gentlemen, they will make your oxford brogues last longer. In terms of cleaning them, may we direct you to our blog which has a quick guide to cleaning.
