History of the Tassel Loafer
The look is debonair and this is no coincidence. A little know actor called Lucas in the 1930s (who was very debonair) first came up with the idea of a tassel on a slip-on shoe. He bought a pair of oxford shoes with tassels on the laces. Lucas wanted a design featuring the tassels button a different way. It was the Alden shoe company who eventually came up with the genius of adding them to a slip on rather than reserving them for actual laced shoes. So the elegant timeless and versatile tassel loafer was born. See here for more history of the tassel loafer.
