Black Loafer : Style and Class
This black loafer is an elegant classic which has clean lines and is formal enough to wear in a business environment. Of course, traditionally, the loafer was considered a lounge shoe and was worn in leisure time but these days, the strict guidance of those days has passed and one can wear black loafers in a smart environment. Having said this, it cannot be mistaken that the look will be less severe than say, if you wore a pair of black oxford shoes. A good fitting suit and these slip-on shoes will work well. It is a great office shoe with enough detail such as the detail of the strap across the vamp and the stitching around the toe. This aspect is reminiscent of the moccasin shoe and so we can think about where this style came from.
Some say the Norwegian shoemaker Tveranger is responsible and that a trip to the US where he saw tribes wear the moccasin style construction led to his designs. This may well be the case. He brought the loafer into Europe and from there it went back to the US and full circle if you like. Certain fashion magazines took a shine to it and soon, celebrities began wearing them and that led to the popularity of this laid back shoe.
