Product Description

Burgundy or Bordeaux?

What a wonderful colour this bordeaux derby is. It sounds like you are choosing your favourite wine: deep, rich berry tones with a hint of autumn! It is a superb addition to any mans wardrobe. The silhouette is elongated and sophisticated and the subtle embellishment of the metal pins to the pointed toe is delightful. There is the W to the toe which is known as a wing tip and this is decorated with broguing. The origin of brogues lies in Gaelic with the word ‘brog’ meaning low heeled shoe which was worn by highlanders and peasants. The fact the holes were there to expel water is quite a thought as now this bordeaux derby brogue is all about decoration.

Definitely a Derby

The fastening of this burgundy shoe is that of a derby. What is a derby shoe you ask? Well, its all abut how the shoe laces up. The open flaps with the eyelets sewn on them are the defining factor and this makes them easier to get on and off than, say, an oxford shoe. In fact the whole purpose of designing the derby was so the portly Earl of Derby could squeeze into his shoes more easily.  The modern gentleman wants to know the difference between a derby and an oxford. It is reasonable to say that although the beginnings of the derby had a country/casual feel, these days there is no question the formal world accepts this style of bordeaux derby brogue into its fold. You can look mighty dapper wearing these pointed toe wing tip brogues one day and equally rock a casual look the next day with jeans. Bordeaux derby shoes for the connoisseurs of style…and yes, thats you.
